Meet the Bees A Look Inside Our Evansville Apiary
Our Backyard Workforce
At Queens Hive, we believe great honey starts with happy, healthy bees. Our apiary right here in Evansville, Indiana is home to hundreds of thousands of incredible Italian honeybees.
A single honeybee will only produce about one-twelfth of a teaspoon of honey in her entire lifetime. To make just one of our 16oz jars of pure wildflower honey, thousands of bees had to fly thousands of miles, visiting over two million flowers.
The Seasons of the Hive
- Spring Build-Up: As the weather warms and tree blossoms start bursting, the hive rapidly grows. The queen can lay up to 2,000 eggs a day to build out the foraging workforce.
- The Summer Flow: This is when the magic happens! With millions of wildflowers in bloom across Southern Indiana, the bees work relentlessly from sunrise to sunset, bringing nectar back and fanning it with their wings until it thickens into honey.
- Fall Preparation: As the days get shorter, the bees shift their focus to storing enough honey to survive the harsh Midwestern winter. We only harvest the true surplus, ensuring the bees always have exactly what they need for the colder months.
We take our stewardship of these amazing creatures seriously, using sustainable practices to ensure they thrive year after year. Every jar you buy directly supports our ability to maintain and protect these hives.
